Episode 1 with Isabella Nichols

Surfboard fins play a significant role in shaping the performance of a surfer and their board when they unite on a wave. While the design of a surfboard holds its own allure, it is the fins that truly breathe life into a board. With the aim of unraveling the secrets behind fin templates, we reached out to some of the world's best surfers.

For the maiden installment in this ongoing series, we delve into an intriguing conversation with 2022 Margaret River Pro Champion Isabella Nichols about her personal fin preferences and the profound influence they have had on her surfing.

"When I was growing up fins weren't something that made a difference. But once I started nit-picking and I wanted to hold my carve for a little longer, throw more spray or get more release, that was when I started playing with fins and fin templates."
